A Step Toward Hope 2006 ? the second annual South Jersey fundraising gala for the Christopher Reeve Foundation, hosted by Miles Technologies of Moorestown, is set for Friday, October 20, 2006 at The Enterprise Center, Mount Laurel, Burlington County, New Jersey. The stellar regional event will feature as Master of Ceremony New Jersey native Joe Piscopo, star of television, film and theater and one of the most recognized comedians of the past 20 years.
A Step Toward Hope 2006 is an outstanding way to pay tribute to Christopher Reeve's legacy and support his efforts to find a cure for paralysis. Miles Technologies is proud to be the organizer of this major fundraising event - which will feature special awards presentations by Miles Technologies and the Christopher Reeve Foundation, as well as Philadelphia and New Jersey celebrities, more than $ 100,000 in auction items and the beautiful backdrop of the expansive Enterprise Center .
Miles Technologies, a leading business technologies and computer consulting firm, conceptualized and hosted A Step Toward Hope in June 2005. The event, which drew more than 300 attendees to The Enterprise Center for an evening of fine dining, entertainment and more than $ 100,000 worth of luxury and diverse auction items, raised funds for the Christopher Reeve Foundation as it received strong attention from the Courier-Post, Burlington County Times, South Jersey Magazine and CN8 The Comcast Network.
During A Step Toward Hope 2005, Dana Reeve, chairman of the Christopher Reeve Foundation and wife of the late actor/activist Christopher Reeve, was the keynote speaker of the event. She was joined on stage by CN8 celebrity primetime journalists Lynn Doyle, host of It's Your Call with Lynn Doyle, and Lou Tilley, host of Out of Bounds. Entertainment and humor by the legendary Joe Piscopo as well as the singing talents of 98 Degrees Jeff Timmons were highlights of the event.
A voice from South Jersey, Anthony Leale, a Burlington County resident who is unable to walk since a motorcycle accident more than eight years ago, spoke to the audience during A Step Toward Hope 2005, sharing his thoughts on the importance of going forward after the loss of Christopher Reeve. Leale, a resident of Mount Holly , stated: Your life span is cut in half if you are paralyzed, but with research and hope we can carry on the vision and mission of Superman Christopher Reeve and fulfill his dream for a cure for paralysis.?
Christopher Reeve, who became famous playing Superman in the movies, became paralyzed in a May 1995 horse riding accident. Prior to his death in October 2004, Reeve lobbied for stem-cell research and other ways to help aid those with spinal-cord injuries.
