Debbi Fields of Mrs. Fields Cookies to Speak in N. Colorado

Loveland, CO (PRWEB) August 4, 2005

Debbi Fields, founder of Mrs. Fields Cookies, will share the recipe for success to approximately 7,000 businesspeople this September in northern Colorado.

Fields is one of eight speakers who will be sharing her tips for business success on Sept. 14 at Bixpo 2005, a two-day business conference at the Budweiser events Center in Loveland, Colo. Anyone is welcome to purchase tickets for the event presented by Buzz Events and the Northern Colorado Business Report, the likes of which is unprecedented in this area of the United States and is comparable to business summits in major cities such as New York, Los Angeles or Orlando.

Fields? audience will hear about her experiences as an entrepreneur, the story of Mrs. Fields Cookies? journey to fame and her personal advice on triumphing in the business world.

?Her story is one of true inspiration,? Project Manager at Buzz Events Megan Wagie said. ?Her words will offer both motivation and help to all types of people, from small business owners to corporate executives.?

Fields family and friends thought she was out of her mind when she baked up the idea of starting a cookie-selling business in Palo Alto, Calif., in 1977.

?My parents told me I had no business going into the cookie business. I had no formal education, money and it just wasn?t going to work,? Fields told an audience at Sam Huston State University in 2002.

Despite the lack of support, an education and the ?dough? needed to start her business, the young housewife took her passion for baking and intuitive entrepreneurial skills and turned an unlikely business into an international phenomenon.

It took a $ 25,000 loan and extreme perseverance, but Fields proved she had what it took to become a successful businessperson.

At her first store?s opening, she found herself standing on the sidewalk, cookie sheet in-hand, giving away free samples to future customers. As revenue increased and her store expanded, Fields was careful to develop a set of standards that were to be followed strictly in order to keep customers happy.

?Any cookie that sat on the shelf for two hours became an orphan cookie and they were donated to charities or sent home with people,? she said to her Huston State audience.

Today this mother of five sits on the boards of Outback Steakhouse, WKNO (a public radio and T.V. station), and the Orpheum Theater. She is the author of two cookbooks published by Time-Life. She is also in the process of co-authoring a book called ?Service Entropy.?

Fields is just one of the series of Bixpo speakers who will be sharing business advice in northern Colorado. Other speakers on Sept. 14 will be Robert Ginnett, senior fellow of the Center for Creative Leadership; Gary Hoover, founder of Bookstop and Hoovers.com; and Donald Trump, president and CEO of Trump Inc. Day-two speakers include Ann Rhoades, vice president of JetBlue and president of People Ink; and Seth Godin, Author of ?Permission Marketing,? ?Purple Cow? and former vice president of Yahoo! Direct Marketing; and Rudolph Giuliani, former Mayor of New York City and CEO of Giuliani Partners, New York's leading business-consulting firm. The fourth day-two speaker has not been announced yet.

In addition to the speaker series, Bixpo will feature over 200 exhibitors from various companies, roundtable discussions with business professionals, the IQ awards, which honors innovative ideas among northern Colorado companies, and the Northern Colorado Summit, which will be a discussion forum with panelists including Tom Hoenig, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City; Alex Pollock, resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute; Dr. Tom Savings, a professor of economics at Texas A&M; and Kate Warne, principle of research and market strategist at the Edward Jones Investment Firm.
